What Is Older Adult Physical Therapy?
Physical therapy for older adults is about more than recovering from injury — it’s about helping you move better, feel steadier, and regain confidence in your everyday life. Whether you're dealing with a recent fall, arthritis, or just want to stay active as you age, our therapy plans are personalized to your goals.
We help with strength, balance, mobility, joint pain, back pain, and post-surgical recovery. You’ll receive a thorough evaluation and a plan that matches where you are — with progress you can feel.
Who It’s For
Older Adult Physical Therapy is designed for people who want to stay active, steady, and independent as they age — whether you're navigating recovery, managing a condition, or simply working to move better every day.
-
Active Older Adults
You're doing well overall but starting to feel like stairs, picking things up, or even quick turns aren’t as easy as they used to be.
-
Anyone Feeling Unsteady
Walking on the lawn, turning quickly, or moving over uneven ground makes you feel unsure or off-balance.
-
Those Dealing with Pain
You’re noticing more back or joint pain and want to avoid surgery or popping pills regularly.
-
Independence Seekers
You want to keep doing the things you love — traveling, gardening, playing with grandkids — without worrying about your strength or balance — or nagging pain.
-
People Who Want to Stay Active, Longer
You want to keep doing the things you love — traveling, gardening, playing with grandkids — without worrying about your strength or balance.
What to Expect.
1: Listen to your story.
Before we create a plan for you. It's important to understand your situation and meet you wherever you're at.
2: Perform a thorough evaluation.
Depending on your situation this will include tests to assess your general strength and balance and strength and range of motion assessments of specific muscles and joints.
Step 3: Create a plan.
Based on the evaluation, we will identify areas to be improved and we will guide you through exercises or treatments to improve those areas.
4: Get Moving.
Now that we have a plan, we'll work to get your body more balanced and resilient. A big part of that is doing the exercises on your own.
5: Maintain Momentum.
As you improve, we'll progress your plan so you can continue getting stronger. If we hit a bump in the road (which is normal) and things are not going as well; then we will reassess and make a new plan if needed.

Nick assisted both of my parents with physical therapy. My dad had a hip revision at 91 years old. When my dad returned home from a Skilled Nursing facility due to needing increased care we contacted Nick and he came into my parents home and worked with my dad 2 days a week. My dad was able to walk with his cane again with the help of Nick. He pushed my dad to work hard and dad continues to do the exercises Nick taught him. His balance and mobility have improved even before surgery. My mom was having knee and back pain and Nick worked with my mom 2 times a week for a couple months. My mom has increased mobility and less pain. I would highly recommend Nicks services. He is kind and always on time.

I've had numerous surgeries in the past several years and I just wasn't bouncing back. I saw an ad for Nick and I thought I would change things up and I'm glad I did. I worked with Nick with PT for several months and I have since graduated to his instruction class. I feel so much better since starting with Nick.

I've been seeing a chiropractor monthly for many years and I recently had a steroid epidural due to a curved spine and bulging disks. The pain in my back and hip continued, so my chiropractor suggested I do PT with Nick. I was hesitant, but decided I would give it a try. Nick was very tentative to what my issues were and put together a series of exercises to help strengthen my back, core and even my balance. I love the fact that he will use your phone and record you doing the exercises so you can remember how to do them when you get home! Sessions are one on one - you're not in a room with a bunch of other people. I no longer have pain in my back and hip. I am so thankful I went to Nick and highly recommend him as your therapist.

My name is Cindy Paustian. I live in St.Paul and Nick traveled to St. Paul twice a week to start me on a physical therapy treatment program after knee replacement surgery. Nick is very knowledgeable and experienced with identifying a PT treatment program specific to your needs. By continuing with Nick from the onset of my PT treatment program until when I was discharged, Nick knew every aspect of my recovery, including building leg strength; improving knee stability; regaining full range-of-motion all while working together with me to reach my goals in returning to my active lifestyle with no knee limitations. Nick is a kind, empathic and understanding person. He is simply the best.

I contacted Nick because I was having pain in my lower back and hips. It was painful to do almost anything I enjoyed. Nick came to my home for therapy, which was really convenient for me. He listened and observed, and chose exercises that specifically met my needs. He noticed I was struggling with balance, so he addressed that need also. Nick brought simple exercise equipment, but also suggested ways to use household items as exercise tools. After several weeks of therapy, I am feeling stronger. I am more pain-free and I am back to enjoying activities again. If I do have pain in my lower back, I now have methods to work with it. I would definitely suggest calling Nick if any of my friends or family members need a physical therapist. Thank you, Nick
-Linda Follmer
Before treatment, my legs felt weak and my balance was not good. Nick gave me exercises to help strengthen my legs and improve my balance. Perhaps what I like about Nick that is different from others, is that he focuses on his client and really listens and adapts accordingly. Not one program fits all and in the privacy of my home! Nick gave me the tools and monitored my progress until we were pretty well satisfied that I could continue with the program on my own. Nick shows a fine combination of professionalism and basic kindness towards his clients and encourages them but not demanding. I would gladly give him a 5 star rating!
